Swap your excess produce for a tasty lunch!
The Alpine Café in Douglas has come up with an innovative way of supporting locally grown produce with a fruit and veg swop shop – you bring the produce and The Alpine will give you lunch!
Co-owners Melanie and Simon Ross explain: “We’re always looking for people with a passion for growing beautiful food on our doorstep.
“Mike for example, brought us the last of his wonderfully vibrant chard last week and we turned it into a hearty soup. And there’s Carolyn who grows really cute cucamelons (they look like tiny watermelons and you’ll never find them in the supermarket). We put them in our salads and the salsa that goes on our black bean soup.
“We take what they’ve produced, put it on the menu and in return, we feed them lunch. Pretty simple really. It’s a small thing but we like to imagine an Island full of green-fingered friends growing lovely stuff!”
